Words are weapons.
Most definitely!
Don't believe me? Try writing hate messages to friends on Facebook and see what happens.
Now write a thank you letter to someone and see what happens.
The plain truth is, words are the most important weapons we have in business as we are mostly dependent on others to get those sales.
What weapon are you using? Are you using pleasant sweet words when you speak to others, or are your words action words that evoke emotion? Are your words memorable? Or are they forgettable?
People will remember you if you dare to stand out.
Look at your advertising for example. Do you do and say something different than all the other ads out there? If you don't, you will have next to no results. You'll just be like all the others. People will skim though your ad and dismiss it as irrelevant. Advertising doesn't work as it used to anymore. You need to be different.
It is not the advertising that is at fault, it is your words.
You need to focus on your benefits, what is in it for your clients. They respond to that. You need to understand who they are, their needs and deepest desires, what makes them tick, and what their problems are.
And you need to be persuasive.
You need the skills of a top salesperson, because advertising is salesmanship in print.
These are the questions you need specific answers to before you start advertising:
- How old is your prospect?
- What gender is your prospect?
- What problems do they face daily?
- What is their biggest problem?
- How would their life change when you give them the solution to their biggest problem?
When you have the answers to these questions, you can start to target them.
If your answer to the first question is: "Anyone who... " or just "anyone" you need to close shop today. You don't have what it takes to run a business.
The way to really go about it is to first find a need in the market. Find a group of people, find out their deepest desires, and fulfil that.
Most business owners decide on a product first, and then try to sell it. This is the wrong way to do business. You need to fill a need. If you do, your advertising will bring in prospects and your business will be successful. If you don't find the answers to these questions, your advertising won't bring in any enquiries and your business won't be successful. It is as simple as that.
