One thing I learned as an entrepreneur in business is that for nearly anything you do in your business life, there seems to be an approved way to do almost everything. If you want to do something new which is between the law or no one has created all laws for it yet, things get very difficult for you. Since no laws exist or any regulations the bureaucrats and enforcement people wish to take their rules and regulations and push them onto your way of doing things. What they'd like to have you do is to do everything like everyone else, to make their job and paperwork easier.
They want you to do everything the approved way and fill out all be appropriate forms without leaving any blank boxes. They want you to sign that you certify and understand it all before they will give you a license to operate - this way they can take it away anytime they want. Even if you don't really require a license because you are creating a new industry or a new subsector of an industry they still feel that you must get it approved by them. What they don't understand is that this is a free country, we are living in a free-market capitalist economy, and if it doesn't say that you can't do something, then you are allowed to do it. They don't get that part - they are too overrun with authority driven arrogance.
All too often the bureaucrats believe that if it doesn't say you can, then you can't, but this is backwards thinking, and not how the law reads. Unfortunately, because you are dealing with the bureaucracy that has their heads often up their rear ends and in an attempt to get up inside of yours they try to force their round peg into a square hole. Is this sort of arrogant attitude and need for control over absolutely everything is what prevents industries from evolving and adapting. If industries can't change, or stay agile they become inefficient, unhealthy, stodgy, stale, and weak.
Further, the bureaucrats and most of the bureaucracy, along with the industry associations working in cahoots with them tell new entrepreneurs and startup companies that you can't succeed unless you do it their way, the approved way, the way that everyone else is doing it, and therefore competing on the same track going around the same circle with the same horsepower, and a strict set of guidelines as to how you build your car. Why would you wish to do that?
As an entrepreneur you need to figure out an advantage, a new way of doing things, and run as fast as you can before you get stuck in the slime of bureaucracy, and are forced to compete only as the rest of the industry improves with small new incremental gains, and committee driven adopted innovations. Let me tell you, as an entrepreneur you need to think outside the box if you wish to win. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.
