The Impact of Social Media On SEO

There are benefits to embracing social media such as people talking about your services and therefore increasing the awareness of your brand. As well as this it gives you the perfect opportunity to develop relationships and to create a lasting impression.
Social media is here to stay and it is just going to keep getting bigger. As a result of this it really is important that you are implementing a social media strategy and making sure that you utilising its power to your best advantage.
There are many forms of marketing and SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is just another form of marketing. With the growth of the Internet, SEO has become one of the most sought after marketing strategies. Simply because more and more searches are being conducted online and if your business can be found in the natural listings of the main search engines, then you have a countless supply of targeted traffic visiting your website.
If you are not in the search engines then your presence online is somewhat diminished and much of your target market will seek out your competition. You do need to remember that SEO is not just about claiming the number one spot on Google, but it is also about building your brand. There are a number of factors that determine where a site ranks, and so you should be ensuring that you taking all the appropriate steps to making sure that you succeed.
SEO and social media should not be seen as two separate entities but rather as one. As social media develops it is becoming increasingly clear that social media does have an impact on SEO.
How to use social media to aid SEO
1. Create social networking profiles.
The three main sites are Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn. But you should also remember that there are many smaller social media sites each with the potential to help you build your brand online.
It is important to note that if you are going to create a social profile that you actually do intend to use it and to create a strong community. It is going to take time to achieve, but the results will be far more beneficial than just creating a profile for the sake of it.
2. Include the keywords and phrases that you are trying to optimise for into tweets and posts.
Twitter allows for 140 characters so you need to be brief. It is great way to add a link to a blog, an article or a video and you can highlight your keyword by using the hash tag, i.e. #keyword. This makes it easier for search engines and people on Twitter to find you.
Facebook gives you a lot more room when writing your post. You can include a headline that includes your keywords and your post can also include keywords. But remember, do not keyword stuff, always write naturally.
3. Drive traffic to your main website.
If you are going to add blog posts or articles on your Facebook page for instance, do not include the whole article. Only have a small snippet. The aim is to get people to your website and not to drive people away. This is clearly taking away the objective of the existence of your website.
4. Publish your content quickly.
You would not think that a post or an article has a shelf life. You need to be creating that is new, fresh and will keep people coming back for more.
